As previously advised we will have our official opening of the 2017-2018 season on 2 September (wet or fine). The format is: if fine – official opening at 12.30 pm and disc draw at 1.00 pm approx. In the event that the weather does not allow for bowls to be played we will have the official opening at 3.00 pm followed by afternoon tea.
On Sunday, 3 September we will have Family day at 12.30 pm – bring along family members or friends and let them have a try at bowling.
The handbook will be completed and as soon as we have received all confirmations of sponsorships. It will then go to the printers. Hopefully we will receive it by 2 September but if not within a week or two of that date.
For those of you with computers the full programme is now on the Petone Central Bowling Club website – click on the Club Official Programme page.
The Match Committee have put a print out of September’s events on the noticeboard. The first scheduled event is the Mixed Fours scheduled for 9 & 10th September and the entry sheet is on the noticeboard.
You are all aware that all memberships are now due and should be paid by the end of September. (Playing members – you must be financial to participate in Interclub, Pennants, and Club Championships). For your convenience there are some envelopes on the bar counter in front of the Treasurer’s Box where you can insert your payment making sure you have your name and membership category included and then put it into the Treasurer’s Box behind the bar grill.
We must remind you too that you should have your Membership card on you at all times when you are in the Club. If you have forgotten to bring it you must sign in in the Register. This is very important as should an Inspector visit our premises and we have people without a membership card or sign in receipt the Club is likely to be fined heavily and have our Licence cancelled.
We have received copious notices for other clubs galas and these are in a binder on the table in front of the Office. Please note that these are not necessarily in date order as we are receiving new notices daily and it would be an impossible or very time consuming task to file them in date order.
From the Centre: Any individual that is interested in becoming part of the Tournament Managers Team for the 2017-18 season is asked to contact David Hewitt Ph: 560 0384 or email email@example.com
Walk of champions. No doubt you are all aware of the Walk of Champions 240 bronze plaques in Jackson Street. This year it is the 25th Anniversary of this Walk, and the Jackson Street Programme have planned a special event on Saturday, 9 September. There are 3 bronze plaques laid for Bowls representatives, namely Joan Porter (our Life Member) for the years 1962, 1983, 1985 at 188 Jackson Street; and the late Jean Coulson for the years 1967, 1983 at 182 Jackson Street; – Joan and Jean were members of the former Central Bowling Club. Many years earlier than these are D Hunter & J W Lowry for the year 1937 (they were members of the former Petone Bowling Club in its very early years). We are trying to find out the timing of the event.
Coaches Corner: The first coaching session will be held on Sunday, 3 September at 1.00 pm and is for 1-8 yr bowlers.

Petone Central Bowling Club came into being in June 2008 as a result of the merger between two former Clubs — the Petone Bowling Club and the Central Bowling Club. Both Clubs were well established in the Petone area with the Petone Bowling Club being inaugurated in 1897 and the Central Bowling Club in 1917.
