There are entry sheets on the Board for some Centre events taking place in September. Please check the Board and put your name on the list for any competition you may be interested in participating in.
Green 2 was sown on Tuesday. Mother Nature has not been kind so far but hopefully we will get better conditions over the next few weeks for the green to ‘flourish’. Many thanks to club members who assisted with this.
Club Mixed Fours – the entry sheet for this event (to be played on 8th & 9th; 15th, 16th September) so get your teams entered.
Indoor bowls finished this week, many thanks to the organisers for this. With our carpet green outside there were unfortunately not so many people playing the indoor game. Monday cards will run through to the end of September.
If members wish to obtain a new or second club shirt or a second shirt and also new members who are wishing to play interclub/pennants etc you will need a club shirt and maybe the club track pants. We do not have jackets on hand, however these can be ordered and we will obtain them from Glenda. Please see either Sandy Booth or Chris Robson if you want uniform items.
We would very much like to increase our playing membership so please check with friends, family, neighbours etc to see if anyone might be interested in ‘having a go!.
The selectors are also asking for expressions of interest from players who wish to be considered for the new Monday night interclub competition commencing 15 October – this is 3 teams of mixed triples. Starts at 6 pm and could be played at any club in the Wellington area.
Opening day for our 2018-2019 season is 1 September and we will have a mixed disc draw. Proceedings will commence at mid-day and the disc draw will be held at 12.30 pm (discs in by 12.15 pm please). The Handbook went to the printers this week – we hoped we might have had it for this weekend but it will definitely be available from next week.
Subscriptions can now be paid. Please put your subscription in a sealed envelope with your name on the envelope and the club membership category you wish to be a member of and ‘post’ it in the Treasurer’s box through the grille on the Bar.
Trading table – Sharon would like the jam jars returned for her to re-use for the marmalade so many enjoy. In particular, she would like the old ‘Roses’ jars back. Also we have bags of sweets for $2.00 each, a check of the Honesty Box shows that some members are not putting the correct amount in just putting a whole lot of loose change which does not add up to $2.00. Please in future make sure you put in the correct amount.
Don’t forget our sponsors – support those who support us. If you do use the services of one of our sponsors please let them know you are from Petone Central Bowling Club so that they know members are appreciative of their sponsorship.
- The first selfie was taken in 1926 when a man called Arnold Hogg took a photo of himself.
- Dreich, to describe miserable weather, was voted by Scottish people as their favourite word. (There has been a number of days here that we could use that description of our weather!)
- The Coronation Street make-up team gets through 10 lipsticks, five powders, six eyeliners, four blushers, six eye-shadows, 15 large cans of hairspray and 50 boxes of tissues every week.
What are you waiting for?
Petone Central Bowling Club came into being in June 2008 as a result of the merger between two former Clubs — the Petone Bowling Club and the Central Bowling Club. Both Clubs were well established in the Petone area with the Petone Bowling Club being inaugurated in 1897 and the Central Bowling Club in 1917.
