Petone Central Bowling Club

May 2018 Newsletter

Winter League: The first Gala was held on Sunday 27th May on a somewhat chilly day but was a very enjoyable day. The next one is scheduled for 3 June. Dates for the other Galas are on the flier on the noticeboard.

We could still do with about 3 more teams on 3 June.

Through these galas we have had 3 expressions of interest from people to join Petone Central Bowling Club – a great outcome if they do!

Annual General Meeting & Annual Prize Giving will be held on 24 June – the AGM at 10.00 am followed by Happy Hour and a Light lunch and then the prize giving.

Mixed 242 pairs are being played on 10 June – a list for those wishing to play is on the club noticeboard.

Nominations have now closed for the Executive Committee. We are wanting one more person for the Executive Committee and nominations will be called at the AGM for this.

At this stage we only have nominations for Match Committee, Midweek Match Committee, Men’s Pennants Selector, and Women’s weekend Selector. So please give serious consideration in assisting with the other midweek events by getting nominated. Gerry Wakefield has been the women’s mid week selector ever since Petone Central was formed and she would like to have someone take over from her, the same thing applies to the Women’s selectors for Gee Shield – Shirley House & Peggy O’Neil have done this since Petone Central started and they want to step down. Gerry, Shirley & Peggy will assist whoever takes over to ‘teach them the ropes’.

Nominations for all these events will stay open until the week before the AGM and nominations will have to be called at the AGM.

Sadly we had another bereavement this month – Bob Walker who had been a social member for several years and was a very supportive club member.

Our Liquor Licence is coming up for renewal and as required by the Licensing Commission a copy of the notice is on display on the Sliding Door and on the wall in the clubhouse. An Inspector could call at any time to check that we are abiding by the terms of our Licence. Please make sure you have your current Membership card with you whenever you -if you forget please sign in on the Visitors Register.

Unfortunately our Jack and Jill competition did not take place due to the weather. The breakfast went ahead and many thanks go to Sandy Booth and her team for a lovely breakfast.

Congratulations to Lorraine Hollow on her selection in the 1-5 year Quadrangular held at Kapiti last Saturday, 12th May.

We appear to be missing a couple of tables in our hall. If anyone can shed any light on where these missing tables might be the Executive would appreciate hearing from you.

Remember from now on throughout the winter months if its fine Green 1 will be open for roll-ups.

We had 2 women’s teams competing in the Waikanae Bowling Club Rose Bowl Fours. Chris Robson’s team – Chris (S), Val, Lynda & Sharon were in the final 8 for the Rosebowl and came 5th overall. Well done! Our other team Yvonne (S), Bev, Judy & Marie had a very mixed tournament and tried hard to be in the top placings in the consolation Gala but one disastrous game put paid to that but we did have enjoyable games.

Don’t forget to support our Sponsors whenever you can!

About Us

Petone Central Bowling Club came into being in June 2008 as a result of the merger between two former Clubs — the Petone Bowling Club and the Central Bowling Club. Both Clubs were well established in the Petone area with the Petone Bowling Club being inaugurated in 1897 and the Central Bowling Club in 1917.
